Electricity

About our electricity services

We own and operate electricity distribution networks in all municipalities in the Suðurnes region, Hafnarfjörður, Álftanes and part of Garðabær, Árborg and in Vestmannaeyjar.
At the end of 2017, we owned 1,919,015 meters of underground cables.

Electricity distribution in the Suðurnes region.

We receive the electricity we distribute in the Suðurnes region from the Landsnet national grid at several delivery points. We distribute electricity from the national grid to all municipalities in the Suðurnes region, with the exception of Grindavík. The electricity we distribute there comes from HS Orka’s power station at Svartsengi.

Electricity distribution in Hafnarfjörður and the surrounding area

We receive all the electricity we distribute in Hafnarfjörður, Álftanes and part of Garðabær (western part) from the Landsnet national grid via our Öldugata substation, where it is distributed to transformer substations, street cabinets and into homes.
In 2018, construction began on a new substation at Hamranes.

The substation was finished in late 2019 and has strengthen the distribution system and increasing delivery safety.

Electricity distribution in Árborg

The electricity that we distribute in the Árborg area (Selfoss, Eyrarbakki and Stokkseyri) is supplied to our substation at Austurvegur in Selfoss, where it is distributed to various transformer substations within the municipality, street cabinets and eventually into the homes of users.

Electricity distribution in the Vestmannaeyja

Electricity is supplied to Vestmannaeyja via a submarine cable. There it is supplied to a new substation, located at Strandvegur 18a. The facility was named Garðar, after Garðar Sigurjónsson, the former electricity distribution manager in Vestmannaeyjar.
We also have diesel generators at our facilities at Tangagata 1, which are activated in the event of a supply failure.
